Mentoring Dance Students for 1st Solo work at the Contemporary Dance School Hamburg (CDSH)

MASS

CDSH Students Solo Performances 2019 at Sprechwerk

2. Education year

In composition workshops with Jascha Viehstädt and Angela Guerreiro, the trainees were given methods and tools to realize their own creations. As every year, our artistic director, Raul Valdez, assisted them in mentoring sessions, helped them to find the right form and gave impulses for the implementation of their very own ideas. Javier Báez, the headmaster of the CDSH, is responsible for the areas of consulting, logistics and production.

We are MASS.

A MASS of cells.

A MASS of thoughts.

A MASS of feelings.

Composed of individual bodies and minds,

we always build one unit.

One unit that seems uncontrollable,

but at the same time so powerful.

Will you be part of the MASS ?

DESIRE

2. Education year

In composition workshops with Jascha Viehstädt and Angela Guerreiro the trainees were given methods and tools to realize their own creations. As every year, our artistic director, Raul Valdez, assisted them in mentoring sessions, helped them to find the right form and gave impulses for the realization of their very own ideas. Javier Báez, the director and headmaster of the CDSH, is responsible for the areas of consulting, logistics and production.

Desire. Desire, desire. You could say it’s the pure desire for something better, something different. But how do we know it’s not an illusion? Ask yourself. Do you have the desire to become something or someone? Do you desire someone? Or are you wanted? Do you have the desire to be accepted or do you wish to be neglected? How do you desire, how not? Why do you desire? What makes you stop? What is the limit? Is it easy? Is it hard? Is your desire gentle? Is it engaging and aggressive?
11 different obsessions, 11 different ways of thinking, 11 different realities. Should we all ask ourselves, was it worth it?

The program consists of 11 pieces and is divided into two parts. The performance takes place in the Hamburger Sprechwerk (Klaus-Groth-Straße 23).

COMPLEXITY

CDSH Students Solo Performances 2016 at Lichthof Theater

2. Education year

The dancers of the second year of the CDSH show ten pieces which they have developed themselves as part of the final examination. They understand the leitmotif “Complexity” as a variety of individual parts interacting with each other. Following a preparatory phase with choreographer Angela Guerreiro, Raul Valdez, the artistic director of the CDSH, accompanied the students in their work process of staging the piece ready for the stage.

There is no clear definition of what complexity means. We define it as something with many aspects that interact in different ways.

This evening is about the meaning of being different, our closest relationships and their influence on us, and the search for our place in society.

LUST

CDSH Graduation performances 2012 at Hamburger Sprechwerk

“Lust is the motor of our ventures, the ones that we agree to and for which we expect a reward that we sometimes receive. Lust is always the mainspring of our evolution, but it also repeatedly puts us in danger of protruding into unknown dimensions, of getting into situations that we cannot control. Lust has various facets, light ones and also dark ones. The light side signifies personal development and insight. The dark side stands for guilt and shame.”

Choreographies: Tomislav Jelicic, Fiona Gordon, Raul Valdez und Angela Guerreiro.

DEPARTURE

CDSH Graduation performances 2013 at Hamburger Sprechwerk

DEPARTURE represents much more: leaving, turning away from well-trod paths, the hope of a new start, setting off in the unknown, discovering exciting worlds as well as moving away from the traditional, drifting away from prevailing opinions, exposing a new view of life, leaving the harbour of boring customs, soaring to new dimensions and spheres.

Choreographies: Angela Guerreiro, Tomislav Jelicic, Teresa Ranieri, Raul Valdez.
