WIR is a film documentary with teenagers in cooperation with the Berufsschule zur Berufsintegration München. At this school, young new immigrants are prepared for a working life in Germany within two years and led to the completion of a successful or qualifying secondary school diploma.

A call for participation was done online with Zoom introducing the project to the students at the Berufsschule zur Berufsintegration München and all interested students were invited to participate either in front or behind the camera.

The project WIR pursues the goal of raising awareness of individual possibilities of expression and strengthening one’s own personality in a new and foreign environment in which one has to permanently redefine oneself. With the help of dance, theatre and film techniques, the aim is to test how the individual can articulate and ultimately position him/herself in an artistic language. The artistic work process is oriented towards the personal stories and needs of the participants. We meet individual with each student, made an interview and inspired them to move and dance to their favorite song.

Performers: Saif Nozat Mohammed Al Hajo, Kokob Dawit Yefter, Cheikh Abdourahmane Camara, Malik Dunbuya, Saher Kret Hayder and Carela Ago-Akumey-Etui.

Film team: Angela Guerreiro (Direction, script and text translations); Stephanie Felber (Camera & Editing); Angelika Krautzberger (Interviews); Benno Heisel (Composition & sound-design); Eva Gahl (Dramaturgy, actors support & text transcription); Dahaba Sakho and Kokob Dawit Yefter (Camera Assistance).

A film documentary by Angela Guerreiro in cooperation with the Berufsschule zur Berufsintegration München and its students.

This film documentary was made instead of a dance theater project due to COVID-19 hygiene criteria and school regulations without prior preparation. Due to Covid-19 the team could not meet previously as planned with each participant to prepare for the shootings. The WIR team was only able to meet, interview and record each performer for one hour and a half. The result of these meetings is the raw material from which this film was made.

The entire team would like to thank all supporters who made this project possible. First and foremost, the City of Munich Department of Arts Culture, which financed the project and never gave up despite the difficult circumstances caused by COVID-19.

WIR also sends a big thank you to the Olympic Park, which provided a wonderful backdrop for our project.

WIR shootings were carried out in accordance with current hygiene regulations to protect against the spread of COVID-19.

CORRESPONDENCES BETWEEN GERMAN CONTEMPORARY DANCE AND JUDSON DANCE THEATER MOVEMENT

A Project by Angela Guerreiro in collaboration with Karen Schaffman

The Live Legacy Project seeks to share the practices and techniques sprouted by the 1960s American avant-garde and that migrated to Germany, often through the Dutch institutions (e.g. School for New Dance Development and European Dance Development School).  The project reveals these revolutionary influences in German Contemporary Dance training, and highlights the visibility of such corporeal values in choreographic work and practice.   What exactly are these embodied philosophies, and what kinds of cultural shifts have been enabled by their transmission?

The Live Legacy Project celebrates this movement by bringing together choreographers, dance artists, scholars, and educators, to converge in a six-day symposium.  They will share their movement practices and stories through intensive workshops, live dyad conversations, round table discussions, and performances. This project is primarily funded by TANZFONDS ERBE, which focuses specifically on German dance heritage.  We are fortunate to have the opportunity to host so many influential international people.  Come to tanzhaus nrw in Düsseldorf and join us for this landmark event.
