Der 9-jährige Agu, Protagonist der Geschichte, ist ein Kindersoldat. Die Handlung spielt in einem fiktiven afrikanischen Land und geht schonungslos mit ihren Leser_innen um. In knallhartem Duktus werden die Erlebnisse des Jungen – so unter anderem im Verhältnis zum Kommandanten, im Leben im Dschungel, beim Töten im Drogenrausch – schmerzhaft genau und brutal erzählt.
