Veronika Blumstein – Moving Exiles
[ Festival of Invention and Choreography ]
The Veronika Blumstein Group is an international group of artists that emerged from the interdisciplinary laboratory for choreographers from Germany and Poland “Move The Mount” initiated by Büro Kopernikus, which took place in September 2005 in Jagniątków in the Krkonose Mountains. They belong to it: Dr. Kattrin Deufert, Thomas Plischke, Dr. Paweł Goźliński, Helena Gołąb, Angela Guerreiro, Isabel de Naverán, Peter Pleyer and Antje Pfundtner
The artists of the Veronika Blumstein Group are interested in live art, performance, performance criticism and theory. Their work focuses on the reconstruction of the life and artistic work of the fictional choreographer Veronika Blumstein. Born in 1940 in Cracow, Veronika Blumstein lived and worked as a choreographer and theorist in Poland and in the America of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. The artists and theorists participating in the festival will take up her invented biography as an opportunity to reflect on artistic concepts in various projects based on the figure of Veronika Blumstein.
The artists formulate their examination of Veronika Blumstein as follows: “The invention of the figure Veronika Blumstein stands for a critical examination of the legacy of the 1960s and 1970s. Not so much to examine her work as a participation in a particular artistic movement or even to reconstruct it as authentically as possible, but rather to place her as an observer, as it were, in the neighborhood of the happening, Fluxus, and performance art movement. As a mediator, Veronika Blumstein’s aim is to facilitate the most varied and interdisciplinary discussion possible of this heritage and its topicality.
With performances, lectures, workshops and a scientific salon, the international artists’ collective celebrates its founding with the festival Veronika Blumstein – Moving Exiles.
